A tweet from former Commonwealth Champion Liam Cameron, suggests bare-knuckle boxing will be his next pursuit.
Yesterday evening at 6:40 pm Liam Cameron tweeted the following:
Cameron looks set to follow in the footsteps of fellow former Commonwealth title-holders John Wayne-Hibbert and Kevin Bennett in making the switch to BKB. The move will likely come as a great relief to the Middleweight who is currently serving two more years of his controversial four-year UKAD drug ban. The ban in question was for traces of recreational cocaine, which was extended from 18 months to the maximum sentence after Cameron refused to admit to being guilty. In a recent interview with IFL TV Cameron denied taking cocaine prior to his bout against Nicky Jenman, where he came back positive for the cocaine metabolite ‘benzoylecgonine’. Fans and fighters alike have unanimously rallied behind Cameron in condemning his ban, as a switch to bare-knuckle looks to be the feel-good moment of the year.
Ultimately, the move, should it happen will be an excellent signing for BKB who are consistently recruiting top-class talent to the company. Being a former Middleweight gloved boxer, the likelihood will be that Cameron would fight around 76-80kg considering bare-knuckle’s same-day weigh-ins. This could lead to potential match-ups with either Jimmy Sweeney or Ricardo Franco and puts Cameron around the most exciting weight classes in the sport.
Either way, we here at ‘Toe The Line’ are gleaming with excitement and hope you are too.
